JOB SUMMARY:
As a Project Engineer at FAULHABER you will play a vital role in the design, development, and execution of motion control projects, supporting both customer-specific solutions and internal product innovations. This position requires a strong blend of technical expertise and project management skills, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and other internal teams to ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, and within scope.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge motion control solutions that power high-tech industries, including medical, aerospace, and robotics. You will engage in cradle-to-grave product development, influencing the entire product lifecycle from concept through production. Additionally, you will collaborate with global engineering teams in Germany and Switzerland, ensuring alignment in technical specifications, best practices, and manufacturing processes.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design & Development
- Create, test, and validate new product designs in virtual space using simulation and analysis before physical prototyping.
- Improve existing products using FEA, motion analysis, and simulation techniques to optimize performance and reliability.
- Develop manufacturing-friendly designs that balance cost, performance, and ease of production.
- Design and improve production and test tooling to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
- Specify system components and materials to ensure conformance with performance and regulatory requirements.
2. Engineering Analysis & Specification Development
- Perform engineering calculations for structural integrity, power transmission, and motion control performance.
- Research and evaluate customer design proposals, specifications, and feasibility studies to ensure cost-effective and maintainable solutions.
- Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations to improve product reliability and prevent future issues.
- Develop and test alternate design concepts and processing methods to assess feasibility and performance improvements.
- Ensure all designs align with ISO 13485, ASME, and industry standards when applicable.
3. Project & Process Management
- Serve as Project Manager for customer-driven designs and internal continuous improvement projects.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and deliverables using project management tools such as Microsoft Project.
- Delegate tasks to team members and ensure timelines, cost targets, and functionality requirements are met.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with internal sales teams and customers regarding project progress.
- Ensure all design documentation and engineering files comply with the company’s Design Management Procedures.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to troubleshoot and optimize designs.
- Engage with global engineering teams in Germany and Switzerland to transfer knowledge, align specifications, and leverage best practices.
- Support custom application development by modifying standard designs to meet unique project requirements.
- Provide engineering support for production issues, field failures, and continuous improvement efforts.
5. Strategic Execution & Innovation
- Assist in the execution of strategic projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, motion control technologies, and competitive benchmarking.
- Contribute to the advancement of motion control solutions, including DC motors, electromechanical actuators, and power transmission systems.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred) for designing parts and assemblies.
- Strong knowledge of FEA, motion control analysis, and simulation techniques.
- Experience with mechanical power transmission systems, electromechanical actuators, and fractional horsepower DC motors is a plus.
- Familiarity with Tribology, Design for Six Sigma, and ISO 13485 requirements is beneficial.
- Working knowledge of programming languages (Python, MATLAB, Minitab, ANSYS, etc.) for data analysis and automation is a plus.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Experience designing test control apparatus and automated testing procedures.

- Proficiency in project planning, resource allocation, and timeline management.
- Experience with engineering change requests (ECR) and managing design modifications.

Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4 to 6 years of research/design experience, OR Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 0 to 2 years of experience.
- Some customer service experience in the industrial/technical market is desired.
Must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S.
This position requires the hire to live locally to the Tampa Bay, FL region. FAULHABER MICROMO is not offering relocation for this role.
